One of the oldest volleyball clubs in Oklahoma, Kaizen was founded in 1994 by Mike Freeman with the goal of developing both amateur athletes and coaches. Open to both boys and girls, Coach Freeman strived to create a program where athletes - whether competing at the local, regional, or national level - learned the importance of working together while developing the self confidence to be a leaders. Seeking to develop athletes that excelled both on and off the volleyball court, a central tenant of the Kaizen philosophy was to keep the costs of playing volleyball as low as reasonable, and when able, to provide financial assistance to those athletes in need.
Reorganized in 2019 as the Kaizen Volleyball Development Club, an Oklahoma non-profit corporation (also known as the Kaizen Volleyball Club), Kaizen remains true to Coach Freeman's vision. As a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity, Kaizen is working to continually improve the quality and scope of its programs, while building a financial aid fund to enable us to lower the barriers to participation in amateur volleyball competition at all levels.
Kaizen has a dedicated coaching staff committed to the highest level of excellence - so both athletes and coaches are held to the highest standards of ethics, sportsmanship, and commitment.
See Club Information page for details on teams, coaches, and corporate governance (Board of Directors).
Kaizen is a Japanese word for CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT. Small improvements over time can result in outsized results - which represents our core goal for each Kaizen athlete, coach, and parent.
Our coaches are some of the best tacticians of the game of volleyball. They strive to expand each athlete's knowledge, mastery of technique, while building their confidence. Yet we realize that athlete's true success is not based on the outcome of the match, but rather by their growth in leadership, sportsmanship, teamwork, character, and work ethic. This is how Kaizen defines success, and this is what we strive to instill in every athlete that joins our family.
